A lot has changed over the past few years. Here is an interesting comparison!
Tuesday July 8th, 2008 As you can tell from the wiki main page I did manage to finish the marathon. I had given up but made a very greatful recovery two weeks before the race. My goal was to finish and given my injury, I took things as slowly as I thought was necessary. Since the F'ton marathon I've worked back up to 27 miles / week without any ITBS problems. Today though, I had a different problem. I set out to run 10 miles. My usual weekly long run these days. I normally run at the hottest time of the day so I have built a tolerance to the heat. Oh, and hey: I plan to run the Moncton "Legs for Literacy" marathon in November. I think it would be nice to make a little vacation trip out of it. Maybe the whole family could come!
Saturday April 5th, 2008 - ProgressI managed a painful 6.65 miles today! It was a good feeling to get some distance in. My theory is that I need to break up the scar tissue without breaking anything else. I actually started feeling better after about 4 miles. I'm caustiously optimistic at this point. Hopefully I'll be able to join the marathon clinic group on Saturday and run the 14 miles with them.
Friday April 4th, 2008 - Injured and hoping to get back on trackLast Friday I decided to get some massage therapy on my kinked up piriformis. The massage did the trick but left me with an iritated ilio-tibial band. Then next day's 15 mile run left me limping for two days and quite possibly ruined my hopes of running the marathon on May 11th. On Tuesday I tested out my leg and had to stop at 1.7 miles before the pain became to much of a concern. On Wednesday I saw a physiotherapist who gave me some exercises and stretches to do. I've also been icing and poping Ibuprofen like it's candy. Thursday I managed 3.7 miles. Hopefully tommorow's run will show more improvement. Unfortunately, it won't be the 20 miles as planned.
Saturday March 15th, 2008 - 57 Days LeftWe (the beginners marathon clinic) ran about 17 miles / 27.5 km today. Only 3 miles short of the longest run in our marathon training program. It started to get a little painful around 10 miles and at 17 miles I could tell I was starting to run out of juice. Maybe I was getting close to "the wall". A person supposedly hits it at around 20 miles. Completing a long run like that makes me think I might have a chance at finishing the 26.3 miles. You can check out
today's route on mapmyrun.com if you are so inclined. These runs are a really a nice way to see the city!
Saturday March 3rd, 2008
Well.. 13.56 miles turned in to 14.6! Sure does feel good to sit down!
Friday February 29th, 2008I received the
route for my long run tomorrow. We'll be running 13.56 miles / 21.8 km which is slightly longer than a half marathon distance. Apparently I didn't severely damage anything last Saturday. A good sign!
Saturday February 23rd, 200812.04 miles / 19.4 km completed this morning and my legs seem to be holding up. I'm confident now than I can at least complete the half marathon barring any serious injuries. It was a beautiful day to be running! Maybe next time I'll bring the camera!
Friday February 22nd, 2008 - A Five Year JourneyAt my work today I met with Sr. management who kindly informed me that I am the successful candidate for the permanent Team Leader position! The decision is still confidential and has not been announced at work. Now it's time to celebrate!!! To kick things off I'll go for a 12 mile / 19 km run tomorrow morning. Here's hoping my legs hold out! Check out this video - "
The Day After the Marathon"!
Sunday February 17th, 2008 - 42.2km or 26.2 milesHi! For now I think I'll write about my marathon training and whatever else comes to mind at the time. You can always check out my current progress via my on-line training log at:
Jason's Training Log. Below is the plan I'm following with the Capital City Road Runners Marathon Clinic. I'm 100% committed to completing the
Fredericton City Marathon on May 11th. If my
ITBS doesn't cooperate I always have the option to switch to the half marathon.
